What we can help with

  • Corrections. Something on a page is wrong, outdated or misleading. These are the messages we most want to receive, and they are acted on.
  • Clarifications. A passage in a guide is unclear, or you think an explanation has skipped a step.
  • Questions about how the site is funded, which are answered in full on the affiliate disclosure page and in person if something there is unclear.
  • Privacy enquiries, including access and correction requests under the Australian Privacy Principles. Our privacy policy sets out what exists to be requested, which is very little.
  • Suggestions for topics the guides do not yet cover.

What we cannot help with

  • Technical support for any software. We do not sell or service products and have no access to any vendor's systems. Contact the vendor directly.
  • Subscriptions, licences, billing, cancellations or refunds. Your contract is with the vendor. The route to follow is set out in our subscriptions and renewals guide.
  • Diagnosing a problem on your computer, or telling you which product to buy. We do not have enough information to do either responsibly.
  • Legal advice about your rights as a consumer or about privacy obligations.
  • Anything urgent. This is a small publication, not a help desk.

If the matter is urgent, these are the right places

  • Scams and suspicious approaches — the National Anti-Scam Centre at scamwatch.gov.au
  • Cybercrime and cyber security incidents — the Australian Cyber Security Centre at cyber.gov.au
  • Consumer complaints about a business — the ACCC at accc.gov.au, which also directs matters to state and territory consumer agencies
  • Privacy complaints and data breaches — the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au
  • Online safety, image-based abuse and cyberbullying — the eSafety Commissioner at esafety.gov.au
  • An immediate threat to someone's safety — contact the police on 000

Response times

We aim to reply to email within five business days. Correspondence is handled by a small team across European business hours, which are some distance from Australian ones, so a reply may arrive overnight from an Australian reader's point of view.

What happens to your email

Whatever you choose to put in a message to us sits in our mailbox, is read by the people who handle correspondence, and is used only to answer you. We do not add senders to any mailing list, because there is no mailing list. Correspondence is retained for up to 24 months and then deleted, unless it relates to an unresolved matter. The full position is in the privacy policy.

Because this site has no form, no field and no account, there is no way for it to collect anything about you at all — a design decision explained on the about page.
